The project
A natural extension of the home
In the summer of 2013, a private client approached LJH with a clear ambition: to add a characterful wooden extension that would feel completely at home alongside the existing property. The result is a distinctive, light-filled addition shaped by honest materials and traditional joinery.
The timber frame was formed in our workshop by our experienced joiners before being taken to site and carefully assembled into position. This controlled approach allowed the principal structure to be prepared with precision and helped the complete project progress efficiently over its eight-week programme.
We manufactured high-performance flush casement windows and a bespoke set of bi-fold doors for the new elevation. Opening towards the steel balcony with hardwood handrails, the generous glazing creates an easy connection between the interior and the space beyond.
Cedar cladding was also applied to the existing house, visually tying old and new together. Its warmth complements the timber frame and gives the property a coherent finish—demonstrating how considered craftsmanship can transform a home without losing its individual character.

Designed, made and assembled with care
From the structural frame to the finishing joinery, the project brought several crafts together in one considered scheme. Preparing the frame in the workshop gave our team the space to work accurately before assembling the structure on site.
